Q: How many questions on the ACT are based on trigonometry?
A: Only 4 of the 60 math questions are trigonometry. Two of the 4 questions are always basic sine, cosine and tangent definitions.

Q: Should I take the SAT I or the ACT?
A: Understanding the skill required on each exam is important but taking a practice test gives you hands on understanding. ACI Institute offers practice exams and a counselor can sit with you to determine which exam is a better choice.

Q: Which exam does Vocabulary play a greater role?
A: If you are a superpower with advanced vocabulary the SAT exam may be more suitable for you.

Q: Do I have to take the optional writing portion of the ACT?
A: You must check the requirements at each of the universities you are applying. The UC system DOES REQUIRE a student to take the optional writing portion of the ACT.

Q: Will I be penalized for guessing on the ACT?
A: No, there is no additional point deduction for marking the wrong answer on the ACT.

Q: How much does it cost to register for the ACT?
A: The ACT without writing cost $31 while the ACT with writing costs $46. The costs includes reports for you, your high school (if you authorize reporting), and up to four college choices (if valid codes are provided when you register).

Q: How much does it cost if I want my scores sent to more than 4 schools?
A: It cost an additional $9 per additional school that you send you scores but you must make the request BEFORE you have taken your ACT.

Q: How do I register for ACT exam?
A: Sign up for the exam on line at http://www.actstudent.org/index.html. You must use a registration package if you are requesting disability accommodations for the first time, are younger than 13 years old, or want to pay by check or money order.

Q: How much is the ACT and SAT similar?
A: A large 75% of the two exams are very similar. Even the science portion of the ACT requires mostly reading and math skill to succeed.

Q: What is the difference between the SAT and ACT writing?
A: You are given 30 minutes to complete the essay on the SAT but only given 25 minutes to complete the essay on the ACT. SAT writers are greatly rewarded for using advanced vocabulary on the essay.
